Katarzyna Kuras, Ph.D.

Katarzyna Kuras, Ph.D., Assisant Professor in the Institute of History, Jagiellonian University, Krakow (Poland). She specializes in the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the early modern period from the social and biographical perpective, as well as the history of courts in Europe (16th-18th centuries). Her latest book was devoted to the structure and functionning of the court of Queen Marie Leszczyńska (1703-1768), daugter of Stanisław Leszczyński, and from 1725 wife of the King of France, Louis XV („Dwór królowej Marii Leszczyńskiej. Ludzie, pieniądze, wpływy”, Historia Iagellonica: Kraków 2019). She prepared the edition of the Polish accounts of the weeding celebrations of Frederick Augustus and Maria Josepha in Vienna and Dresden in 1719 („Ostatnie wielkie widowisko barokowej Europy. Polskie relacje z uroczystości weselnych Fryderyka Augusta i Marii Józefy w Wiedniu i Dreźnie w 1719 r.” edition in cooperation of Jolanta Pabian, Historia Iagellonica: Kraków 2015). Member of The Society for Court Studies and International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies / Société internationale d’étude du dix-huitième siècle. The head of the project of National Science Centre (2015-2018), grantee of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education for young scholar (up to 35) (2012-2015). Privately she likes reading non-fiction literature and voyages across Europe.
